Element Aviation Payment Services Announces True Pricing Program to Make Flying More Affordable
Atlanta, Georgia, July 3rd, 2008 – In an effort to help make general aviation flying more affordable Element Aviation Payment Services is now offering True Pricing to general aviation merchants in the United States.
By using Element’s exclusive True Pricing program to process a Visa or MasterCard transaction Element Aviation discovered that it could reduce a merchant’s monthly credit card processing costs compared to conventional pricing programs. Most merchant services providers use the three tiered pricing structure that places transactions into one of three categories and then charges the merchant an expensive surcharge per transaction. Under the True Pricing program, the actual Visa and MasterCard charges for processing are passed through to the merchant, without the costly mark-up. With True Pricing the merchant can see exactly how much it costs to process each transaction. This exclusive pricing program will help general aviation merchants reduce their monthly processing costs and allow them to pass on the savings to their customers. “With aviation fuel costs increasing daily it is a joy for us to be able to offer general aviation merchants these significant cost savings.” said Captain Mark A Ritchey, owner of Element Aviation Payment Services.
Element Aviation Payment Services is proud to be an Independent Agent and Authorized Partner of Element Payment Services an innovative leader in the bankcard processing industry. Element’s leading edge technology now offers merchants the ability to process credit card transactions anywhere in the world with the Element Express Virtual Terminal. How to Reduce Your Risk of Internet Sales Fraud
Element Aviation Payment Services is dedicated to helping general aviation merchants save money on their Visa and MasterCard credit card processing fees.
Please visit our website at www.elementaviationps.com for more information.
In today’s fast paced world, ordering products and services over the internet and paying by credit card is the preferred method – unfortunately for you the merchant, it can be a risky one. When neither the card nor the customer is physically present at the point of sale, you experience the greatest exposure to stolen card numbers, disputes, charge backs and fraud.
Remember…For retail transactions also known as “face-to-face” sales, the card and the cardholder must be present at the point-of-sale (POS), and the card must be swiped through the POS terminal for the lowest processing rate.
All sales in which the card is Not Present in person, such as over the internet, by mail or by telephone order, are taken at your own risk. Hopefully you’ll take a few minutes to review the following guidelines as this may help your business reduce its chance of suffering a financial loss due to credit card fraud.
1. Train employees to authorize every sale on the order date- Authorizations are valid for a specific number of days: Visa – up to 7 days, MasterCard - up to 30 days.
Merchandise must be shipped and sales must be deposited within these timeframes, or the authorization will expire. If your shipping date exceeds these timeframes, obtain a new authorization code before shipping the merchandise.
Remember… that a hacked credit card number will not show up as stolen and the transaction will still process to the card owners account, leaving you susceptible to paying for the charge or a chargeback!
2. Record the full credit card account number-
A Visa card number always begins with a 4 and has 13 or 16 digits, a MasterCard card number always begins with a 5 and has 16 digits. Store this information in a PCI Compliant location.
3. Ask the purchaser for both a billing and shipping address-
In other words, where is the credit card bill sent to and where do they want the item shipped to. If the addresses are different, determine whether the difference seems reasonable. Beware of international orders where you cannot verify the shipping and billing address.
4. Ask for the customer’s phone number – not as a condition for accepting the sale, but as a customer service tool-
The phone number enables you to call the customer for various reasons: to inform them that merchandise is back ordered, to request another form of payment if the authorization was declined or to verify information if the caller seems unclear about address details. Or to just check up on them to make sure they are legitimate!
5. Ask for the Visa Card Verification Value 2 (CVV2) and MasterCard Card Validation Code 2 (CVC2) number on the back of the card-
Have the customer turn the card over and read you the last three digits, which trail the account number printed in the signature panel (this is the CVV2 or CVC2 code). Note: Merchants who request the CVV2 or CVC2 code will receive a match or no match response when entering the transaction into a terminal for processing. A no match warning gives you a pretty clear sign that the credit card information is not legitimate. In other words, that three digit number is attached only to that card so if the buyer cannot supply the code they don’t have the card!!!
6. Use the Address Verification Service (AVS)-
AVS enables you to compare the billing address provided by the customer with the billing address on file at his card-issuing bank. You receive a verification code indicating a match or partial match. While this is not a guarantee against charge backs it allows you to make a more informed decision before shipping. Remember… AVS does not work for international credit card purchases.
7. Do not deposit sales until the ship date-
Visa and MasterCard regulations do not permit merchants to receive payment for sales until the goods or services are delivered to the customer. Obtain an authorization on the order date, but do not deposit the sale until the ship date. Visa transactions for custom-ordered merchandise may be deposited on or after the order date, if the merchant has informed the customer that he will be billed prior to shipping.
8. Maintain a history of fraudulent account numbers or customer names-
Store suspect account numbers and customer names in a PCI Compliant secure database to cross check when you suspect fraud.
9. Mail an order confirmation notice to the cardholder prior to shipping-
This will not prevent charge backs; however it may reduce the number of inquiries and ticket requests. Element Payment Services offers merchants the Core Management System for free with the ability to input the issuing banks BIN number and the ability to cross reference the customers billing address.
10. Request that your customer service number appear on the customer’s credit card statement-
Both Visa and MasterCard regulations permit mail and telephone order merchants to place their customer service telephone number where the merchant city would normally appear. This may help the customer recognize the charge when it appears on the statement and reduce the number of ticket copy requests and potential disputes.
